Bank impersonation scam

What it means

A scammer pretends to be your bank and says there is fraud, a locked account, or a suspicious transaction so you will reveal codes, login details, or move money.

Example

You receive a text that appears to come from your bank asking you to confirm a charge, then a caller asks for your one-time code.

Warning signs

• They ask for your password or one-time code.
• They tell you to move money to a safer account.
• They pressure you to act while staying on the phone.
• The message link does not clearly match the bank’s official domain.

Safer next steps

• Do not click the link in the message.
• Call the bank using the number on your card or official app.
• Never move money because of an incoming call.
• Change your password if you entered credentials.
